WASHINGTON – Pope Leo XIV has appointed Reverend Andres (“Andy”) C. Ligot as Auxiliary Bishop of San José. Father Ligot is a priest of the Diocese of San José, currently serving as vicar general and chancellor of the diocese, as well as pastor of St. Elizabeth of Portugal Parish in Milpitas, California.
Dear Catholic School Families,
We, across the Diocese of San José, are heartbroken by the tragic events that took place today at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, where a school Mass was targeted by violence. Lives were lost, and many were injured. We hold the students, families, and parish community there in our deepest prayers, asking the Lord to bring comfort and healing.
Meeting with altar servers from France, Pope Leo XIV laments the country’s lack of priests and upholds the ministry of young people at the altar, saying the dignity of their service helps lead people into the sacred greatness of the Mystery.

Seven years ago, on October 6, 2018, on the Vigil of Our Lady of the Rosary, our brand-new parish (formed by the merger of Saint Nicholas and Saint William parishes in Los Altos) began its new life by being consecrated "To Jesus through Mary." In preparation for the event, we offered our popular 33-day personal consecration program to all our parishioners. This year, we are again offering that program and will renew our Parish Consecration at Mass at Saint Nicholas and Saint William on October 5, 2025.
Would you be interested in visiting Catholic patients at Stanford Hospital and offering them Communion? If you are a compassionate listener, empathic, well-grounded in your faith, and open to serving a couple of hours a week, then becoming a Spiritual Care Services Volunteer at Stanford might be the right opportunity for you. We particularly welcome bilingual Spanish/English candidates.
My name is Clare Lee, and I serve as the music coordinator at St. Nicholas & St. William Church. I warmly invite your child to join our Children’s Choir this school year. Thank you for answering the call to ministry at Saint Nicholas and Saint William Parish! We value your time and are excited to have you serve in our parish community. As members of the Body of Christ through our baptism, we are all called to live our lives in such a way that others will see the good that we do and give glory to God.
Mental illness is part of the human condition, and people from all religious traditions are affected. Religious traditions are coming to a more complete understanding of mental illness and see that mental health care is a gift from God that can help all people find healing and hope. Pope Leo XIV has said, “religion, at its core, is ... a wellspring of healing”. Pray that all religious traditions will work together to eliminate stigma and promote the healing that comes with good mental health care.
“To sing well is to pray twice” is a saying attributed to St. Augustine. The Second Vatican Council (aka “Vatican II”) also strongly highlighted the integral role of music for our Liturgy and worship, primarily as a form of active participation engaged in by the entire assembly, not just the choir and musicians.
On March 27, Father David Michael Moses presented a talk, “How the Sacraments Make us Saints,” at Saint William Church in Los Altos. A popular social media figure with millions of followers, he spoke about his ministries of evangelization with The Valley Catholic.
