Dear Catholic School Families,
We, across the Diocese of San José, are heartbroken by the tragic events that took place today at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, where a school Mass was targeted by violence. Lives were lost, and many were injured. We hold the students, families, and parish community there in our deepest prayers, asking the Lord to bring comfort and healing.
Although this tragedy happened far from us, we know it stirs deep emotions here at home. Families entrust us with their children each day, and we want you to know that their safety and well-being remain our highest priority.
Every Catholic school in the Diocese of San José follows established safety procedures and works closely with local authorities. In the immediate future and in the days ahead, our schools will review these measures again to ensure that staff and students remain prepared.
At the same time, we stand firm in our faith. We will continue to gather for Mass and prayer as communities of hope. We encourage you to reach out to each other and your school and parish community for support, and we invite everyone to join in prayer for the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragedy.
With gratitude for your trust and with prayers for peace,
Most Rev. Oscar Cantú
Bishop of San José
