In the Parable of the Talents, Jesus reminds us that each person has been entrusted with gifts. Everyone has been given something. Some are given gifts of teaching, hospitality, compassion, leadership, etc. The question is not whether we have gifts, but what we will do with what God has placed in our hands.
This is especially true in parish life. Being a member of the Church is not a passive role. We are not bystanders watching a few others do the work—we are the Church. Through baptism, each of us has something to contribute, and the parish is strongest when ordinary people offer their gifts in simple and generous ways.
Some serve as catechists, lectors, musicians, or by bringing Communion to the sick. Others work quietly behind the scenes: arranging flowers, serving coffee and donuts, helping with events, or welcoming new faces. These may seem like small things, but they help create a parish that is prayerful, warm, and alive.
The practical truth is simple: if no one volunteers to put out flowers, there will be no flowers. If no one serves hospitality, there will be no coffee and donuts. The Church is called to serve our community, but that mission needs hands and feet. The question is not whether you are called to serve, but how.
