The main sign of Pentecost in the West is the color red. It symbolizes joy and the fire of the Holy Spirit. Priests and Deacons wear red vestments, and in modern times, the custom has extended to the lay people of the congregation, who also wear red clothing in celebration. Plan to wear RED to Mass next weekend!

This was a big week, as we reached an important milestone: we passed the $40 million mark! A year ago, we had not yet raised a single dollar. Today, thousands of faithful and committed stewards from every corner of the Diocese have responded with generosity, embracing not only the renewal of their parish communities, but also their own personal renewal in Christ. What a powerful testament to the living work of the Gospel and to what God can accomplish through hearts filled with faith, gratitude, and generosity.
This month, the Pope’s prayer intention is that everyone might have food. When we lack food, our physical and mental health suffer. A child who goes to bed hungry wakes up anxious and depressed. Hunger erodes a person’s sense of safety and dignity. Let us pray that everyone be committed to ensuring that people everywhere have access to quality food that nourishes their bodies, minds, and spirits.
The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian.
This month, Care for Creation, a San Jose Diocesan ministry of the Life, Justice and Peace Office, launched a monthly newsletter on Laudato Si' in Action! Fr. Larry Percell was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. After much prayer, discernment, and consultation with his care team and family, he has chosen not to pursue aggressive treatment. He is very much at peace and is grateful to God for the richness of his life as a husband, father, and priest.
Please keep him and your family in prayer as he continues his journey of faith and discipleship.

Bishop Oscar Cantú invites the people of the Diocese of San José to begin a two-year liturgical renewal, Renewed at the Table of the Lord, aimed at helping Catholics rediscover the beauty and meaning of the Mass. He reflects on how easy it is, even for priests, to go through the motions and miss the wonder of what is truly happening at the altar: Christ’s saving mystery made present here and now. Beginning this spring with the Introductory Rites, the renewal will guide parishes through each part of the Mass with reflections and practical resources so that the faithful can participate more prayerfully and attentively.
This month, the Pope’s prayer intention is for priests in crisis. The life of a priest is often filled with joy, but priests can also experience high levels of stress, loneliness, and depression due to heavy workloads, isolation, and high expectations.
The Institute for Leadership in Ministry is a 3-year course of study for the laity. The ILM provides training and faith formation for lay leaders in the Church. The theological base for this program is found in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. Responding to their baptismal call, graduates return to their parish to serve in various leadership roles in Liturgy, Catechetics, Social Justice, Pastoral Care, and many others.
Hello! My name is JJ, and I am thrilled to be part of this wonderful parish community. I was born and raised in the Diocese of San Jose, so being back here feels a bit like coming home. I attended Oregon State University, where I competed in track and field and cross country. During my time there, I found my place at the Newman Center and made lifelong friends. After college, I served as a missionary for the Newman Center, and it was one of the best years of my life.
We have begun the second half of the fiscal year (July 25-June 26). Thank you for your support of our parish's mission and ministries. In February, our average weekly collection was $21,859. You also generously donated to various important causes through our February special collections, totaling $13,120 or ($3,280) per week). This brings our weekly February total to $25,139. We budgeted our Sunday Offertory income (less special collections) for JUL-FEB (34 weeks x $25,000) at $850,000, and we received $819,000 (-$31,000).
Sowing Seeds of Faith is a campaign for spiritual renewal and is a bold step forward in our diocesan journey of renewal. Rooted in prayer, consultation, and our shared mission, this campaign will strengthen our parishes, schools, ministries, and future generations of Catholics in Santa Clara County. Together, we are planting seeds that will bear fruit for years to come.
