Only three birthdays are celebrated on the Church’s liturgical calendar: the Nativity of Our Lord (December 25th), the Nativity of His Forerunner, John the Baptist (June 24th), and the Nativity of His Mother on September 8th.

Please join us for the Mass for the Care of Creation (Missa pro custodia creationis) presided over by Bishop Ligot at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, 11:30 am. This Mass was developed during Pope Francis’ pontificate in response to requests for a liturgical way to celebrate the meaning of Laudato Si’ and to link liturgy with care for creation. It reflects Scripture, the Church Fathers, and Pope Francis’ vision for ecological responsibility. Followed by a parish recognition reception and light snacks.

The following day, the cross that Empress Helena had discovered on 14 September 320 was venerated in a solemn ceremony. Today, the cruelty of the Cross is not what is exalted, but the Love that God manifested to humanity by accepting death on the Cross.

Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry at the 9:00 am, 11 a.m., and 5:00 pm Masses at St. William. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and witnessing to the Gospel

It calls on Catholics to reflect on the Dignity of every human life, particularly during Respect Life Month, which is observed in October.
