"What do you seek?” (John 1:38)
These are the very first words Jesus speaks in the Gospel of John—it was a question not just meant for the first disciples, but for us as well.
What are you looking for? Have you found it? Or have you perhaps been sidetracked along the way?
The call to follow Jesus is the adventure of our lifetime, and yet, after years of coming to Mass and perhaps even serving in ministry, that adventure can start to feel more of a chore, even a burden.
What are we looking for - or are we even still looking?
Christ’s invitation to the disciples following that question is “come and see!”
We would also like to share that same invitation to you to come and join us for “Foundations”, a series dedicated to help deepen in our knowledge of the faith (through great speakers and great talks), but more importantly, to help that knowledge go from head to heart - to stir us to take up again the adventure of following after Jesus on the road of discipleship. Apart from content, we’ll have opportunities to share, discuss, and have community, food, and fellowship.
Our first night together explores The Universal Search for Meaning.
We hope that you’ll also “come and see!”
Every human heart searches for something more — meaning, purpose, fulfillment. We'll open our Foundations series by looking at this universal search and how the Catechism describes our deep, built-in desire for God (CCC 27). Come explore the question behind every question: what are you really looking for?
Is faith just a leap in the dark, or can we actually reason our way toward God? Join us as we explore how the Catechism describes our natural desire for God (CCC 27) and the ways he makes himself known through creation, reason, and ultimately through his own revelation. Come discover why the search for truth and the search for God are one and the same.
What does it mean that God looked at his creation — including you — and called it good? Drawing on the Catechism's teaching on creation and the Theology of the Body, we'll explore how body and soul together reveal the dignity of the human person made in God's image. Come discover why you were made not by accident, but for glory.
Why does the world feel so broken, and why do we so often fail at the good we want to do? The Catechism traces this ache back to the Fall (CCC 385–421), showing how sin fractured our relationship with God, one another, and even ourselves. But understanding the wound is the first step toward the cure — join us as we look honestly at sin so we can better receive the healing that follows.
You are never alone in your faith — you belong to a family that stretches across heaven and earth. We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on the Communion of Saints (CCC 946–962) and what it means to walk with the saints, ask for their intercession, and belong to something far bigger than ourselves. Come discover the great cloud of witnesses cheering you on.
The Bible isn't just an ancient book — it's God speaking to you today. Drawing on the Catechism's teaching on Divine Revelation and Sacred Scripture (CCC 101–141), we'll explore how to read the Bible as a living conversation with God and let it shape the way we pray and live. Come learn to hear God's voice in his Word.
Where is history headed, and what happens when it ends? The Catechism's teaching on the Last Things (CCC 668–682, 1020–1060) invites us to face judgment, heaven, and Christ's kingship not with fear but with hope. Join us as we look at the end of the story — and discover why it's actually good news.
Before anyone else said yes to Jesus, Mary did. As we enter Advent, we'll turn to the Catechism's teaching on Mary (CCC 484–511) and her example of trust, humility, and total openness to God's plan. Come see what it looks like to be the first — and model — disciple.
The Gospels aren't just a record of the past — they're an invitation to walk alongside Jesus today. We'll draw on the Catechism's reflections on the life of Christ (CCC 512–570) to see how his words and actions still speak directly into our lives. Come rediscover the heart of the Gospel story.
God doesn't just meet us in dramatic moments — he meets us through ordinary signs that carry real grace. We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on grace and the sacraments (CCC 1077–1134) and how these everyday encounters transform us from the inside out. Come see how heaven touches earth in the sacraments.
Two sacraments stand at the center of Christian life: one that makes us new, and one that feeds us for the journey. Using the Catechism's teaching on Baptism (CCC 1213–1284) and the Eucharist (CCC 1322–1419), we'll explore how we are reborn as children of God and nourished by Christ himself. Come be reminded of the gifts you may take for granted.
The Ten Commandments can sound like a list of "don'ts" — but the Catechism reveals them as a roadmap to real freedom (CCC 2052–2082). We'll look at how God's covenant at Sinai still shapes a life of love and integrity today. Come discover why the commandments set us free rather than fence us in.
Addiction can feel like an unbreakable chain, but the Church offers real hope for healing and freedom. Drawing on Catholic teaching on the moral life and the healing power of grace, we'll talk honestly about addiction and the path toward recovery in Christ. Come find hope if you or someone you love is caught in this struggle.
Every year, the Church leads us into the desert with Christ. We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (CCC 1430–1439) and how these Lenten practices strengthen rather than deprive us. Join us as we prepare our hearts for this season of grace.
What does it really mean to be free — and how do we know what's right? We'll dig into the Catechism's teaching on conscience and moral freedom (CCC 1776–1802) to see how forming a good conscience leads to true, lasting freedom. Come learn how to make choices that actually make you more yourself.
Character isn't built overnight — it's formed one habit at a time. We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on the human and theological virtues (CCC 1803–1845) and how faith, hope, and love take root through daily practice. Come learn how small habits can shape a truly virtuous life.
If God is good, why is there so much suffering? We'll wrestle honestly with this age-old question through the lens of the Catechism's teaching on evil and the Paschal Mystery (CCC 385, 599–618), where the cross becomes the surprising answer. Come bring your hardest questions — and find hope on the other side of them.
No matter how far you feel from God, mercy is always closer. We'll look at the Catechism's teaching on the Sacrament of Reconciliation (CCC 1422–1484) and why confession is really an encounter with God's peace, not judgment. Come discover what it feels like to start fresh.
Why do we need the Church at all — can't faith just be "me and God"? We'll trace the adventure of the early Church in Acts and the Catechism's teaching on the nature of the Church (CCC 751–810) to see why Christ founded a community, not just a set of ideas. Come discover why you were made to belong.
Few lives were as radically transformed by grace as St. Paul's. Through his letters, we'll explore what it means to live "in Christ" and let grace reshape every part of our lives. Come be challenged and encouraged by one of the most transformed lives in history.
Holiness isn't just for priests and religious — it's for you, right where you are. We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on the universal call to holiness and vocation (CCC 897–913, 1533–1535) and how marriage, single life, and everyday work can all become paths to sainthood. Come discover the specific call God has for you.
God has given every person unique gifts meant to build up the Church. We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on charisms (CCC 799–801) and practical ways to discern the gifts God has placed in you. Come find out how you're meant to serve.
Confirmation isn't a graduation from faith — it's an ignition. We'll look at the Catechism's teaching on the Holy Spirit and Confirmation (CCC 1285–1321) and what it means to be sealed and strengthened for mission. Come be reminded of the fire the Spirit lit in you.
Have you ever wondered what's really happening at Mass? We'll walk through the Catechism's teaching on the liturgy (CCC 1345–1355) to unlock the deep meaning behind every word and gesture — and see how heaven touches earth in every celebration. Come see the Mass with new eyes.
Prayer is simply a conversation with the God who loves you — but how do we actually do it? We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on prayer, especially praying with Scripture (CCC 2559–2565, 2705–2708), and pick up practical tools to talk and listen to God. Come learn to make prayer part of your daily rhythm.
In a noisy world, silence can feel almost impossible to find — yet it's where God often speaks loudest. We'll explore the Catechism's teaching on vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplation (CCC 2700–2719) and different styles of prayer you can try. Come discover a form of prayer that fits your soul.
Faith was never meant to stay inside these walls. As we close out our Foundations journey, we'll look at the Catechism's teaching on the Church's missionary mandate (CCC 849–856) and what it looks like to share the Good News in your everyday world. Come be sent out — ready to bring what you've learned to others.
